Sometimes I write things about awesome sketch comedy shows I witnessed over the weekend and they go up on TOsketchfest’s website:

To the CBC! Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
So, I’ve discovered my coping mechanism for stress. It’s sleep. I start a new job tomorrow, and I didn’t realize how nervous I was for it until I noticed the only way my body wanted to cope with the anticipation, was by completely shutting down and sleeping the day away. Oh. And shopping. I bought a bunch of new work clothes this evening. Not because I wanted to, but because it was “recommended” to me to “update” my wardrobe because, and I’m paraphrasing here, I dress like a “hobo” to work. So, watch as I turn into a beautiful consumerist butterfly over my next paycheques and have my brain-thoughts replaced by notions of whether or not my shoes match my jacket and/or belt and/or underwear and/or contact lenses and/or tampons. I don’t know. That’s how fashion-savvy people think, right?
Anyway, yes…a new job, I say! Tomorrow, I go against my 2010-implemented ban on government work and return to work full time at the CBC. (Holy crap, I’m so excited.) I wanna say technically, it doesn’t count as “the government” – because it’s only mostly funded by the government, but whatever right? I’m not gonna have any trouble sleeping at night. In fact, I think my dreams might improve some, especially if I can gaze upon George or Jian in the elevator at some point.
That being said, I feel like I’ve fallen off the map ever since I found out I’d be leaving the last place where I worked. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe because I found it quite tiring. I hope this new job won’t be so draining. At least I won’t be driving to Richmond Hill every day anymore! HOORAAAAAAAAH! It seems like this week, I’ve started to come out of hibernation a bit; what with this new job, and a few activities planned for the week’s evenings.
For example, I went to see the preview of the new Second City main stage show last night with a few of my Conservatory classmates. The show was really good. I’m not going to say anything about it because it’s not completely finished yet- still some tweeking to do here and there but, it’s looking pretty darn good. Had me lol’ing. It’s so weird not to be working there anymore. I miss all the people I worked with at the main stage so much, because they were such an awesome bunch – friendly, talented, hardworking, interesting, and just like, really nice people. You don’t get that in every work environment, so I was really glad to have been able to experience it there.
Speaking of cool people, tomorrow night, I’m off to see Andy Kindler at Comedy Bar. I won free tickets by listening in to Mark Andrada’s radio station Way Too Early, which is an awesome show to tune into every morning (and I worry because I don’t know if I’ll be allowed to listen to anything except the CBC once I start working there…) But anyway. Super excited for that. I got to see him last year and laughed my balls off, so I’m looking forward to doing that again. (The balls have grown back and are ready to be laughed off once again. Isn’t science wonderful?)
Then Friday, I acquired tickets to see a live taping of the Rick Mercer Report thanks to my good pal Morgan Winn who unfortunately (for her) couldn’t come to the show but fortunately (for me) I get to spend an extra 4 hours at work to check out the show!
Hopefully this is the last big snowfall we have here in Toronto, because I’m getting antsy to go out more; to write more, to perform more, to not have to wear winter jackets and to feel free to move around.
Anybody else feel that way?
Beat it already, winter!
CatChatz – Episode 6 – New Years Resolutions
A new year – a new CatChatz. Managed to get the new one edited in one day – Thanks Snow Day!
This episode has Melanie and Shelley making up New Years Resolutions for their cat friends, Peanut and Indy. We’re also joined by guest-star Dina Senior, my all-time truest-non-blood-related friend in the world, who is ready to pump you & your kitty up this year!
Check it out:
Go on, give it a click!
Meow! Meow!
Post-Sickness Plea
Two days sick in bed and I’m going CRAZY up in here. (In here, referring to my brain.) Somebody get me a job related to comedy, or media, or SOMETHING that has SOME element of creativity to it! I can’t keep driving to Richmond Hill every day to do shipping & receiving and human resources. It’s driving me berserk!
HELP. ME. PLEASE!
I’m losing it.
3 Fun Friday
It’s been a nice, quiet Friday, brightened up by the fact that:
- I spent most of the day listening to Mark Andrada play show tunes on his Internet radio show and was consoled by the fact that there are many other musical theatre geeks in the comedy community. (The show is for reals dope – don’t let the whole musical theatre thing dissuade you from checking it out: Way Too Early… with Mark Andrada) and;
- I found out I get to help out again with this year’s SketchFest! (I think I mentioned that in my last post, but I don’t care – I started doing some actual stuff today for it and so shut up. It counts.)
- We begin filming the next episode of CatChatz tomorrow! Hooray for cats! Meow! Meow! (On a similar note, it looks like Peanut’s starting to feel better, so hopefully she’ll be in ship-shape for the shoot.)
OK, back to point #2 (hehehehe, #2…) anybody excited about SketchFest should attend this event right here:

The Speed of January
Eee! Last night I performed with my Con class in our first Con show to date! I think it went well for the first time all of us performed together and I look forward to doing it more frequently. But when? I’ve been so busy lately, except when I spoke to someone the other day, I was like… “oh you know how slow January can be?” What? How can my brain think it’s simultaneously slow and incredibly busy?
I blame the weather. It’s more difficult to operate at my pace when all day it feels like it’s 7pm, until 4:30pm, at which point it feels like it’s midnight.
But I digress. So Con’s going well. The Incubator’s going well. I’ve got an upcoming news-show I’m beginning to prepare for with some other exceptionally talented ladies. Trying to do sets here and there. And I really want to get writing some spec scripts and other types of packets.
Also, I just found out I get to help out again at this year’s Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival! CODPIECE wasn’t quite ready to apply for the festival, so I’m glad I can participate at least in some small part! Keep an eye on my posts on the TO Sketchfest website and BUY YOUR TICKETS NOW!
PS. The Second City Festivus party was awesome. Working at the Second City and therefore having that venue in which to party is right up there with: Partying at the Governor General’s house and Partying on the battlefields of the Somme. (Man, I’ve worked in some pretty cool places! #lucky)

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 6,700 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 11 years to get that many views.
It’s a Friendly, Friendly World
For a bunch of reasons, I have Andy Kaufman to thank for what I do now. And Jim Carrey, for his portrayal of Andy Kaufman in the 1999 film “Man on the Moon.”
I should watch that again soon.
